What is SERP?

SERP (Search Engine Rank Page) is a page for issuing search results, which is also often called “search results” or simply “results”. Despite the fact that the interface and functional elements of SERP remain unchanged for each search engine for a long period of time, each time this page looks different for the user, since its main part is reserved for organic display and dynamic contextual advertising blocks. There are also elements that appear optionally, depending on the entered query: shortcuts, related queries and some controls.

The main elements of SERP

Organic issue. The main part of SERP. This is a list of links to pages that are indexed by the search engine and issued to the user in accordance with the ranking algorithm. Each link is accompanied by at least a Title tag and a snippet – a brief excerpt from the page, the most relevant request.

Commercial issuance. These are blocks of contextual advertising, including text, text, graphic, and rich media ads. As a rule, a place is given for commercial issuance over organic issuance, under it and to the right of it. Depending on the popularity of the topic among advertisers, the number of ads may vary. On unpopular topics, commercial issuance may be completely absent.

Shortcuts These are the elements that appear in response to some types of queries. They represent a ready-made short answer to the user’s question, which is issued by the search engine itself, without any links to any site. For example, a search system can display current exchange rates, time, distance to a given point, etc.

Related queries. In some cases, the search engine tells you what query could be meant if the user entered it with an error. Also, the search engine can automatically correct, for example, a common spelling error and give an alert about it.

Technologies make Internet searches accessible to everyone: maps, a list and a brief description of songs, videos or products, ready-made reference materials or definitions, news, images and much more.
